The assembly line of battery pack today makes the production of battery more efficient. Battery cell testing/sorting, welding, final assembly, and quality control which should be done on reliable battery assembly line nowadays especially for electric vehicles, solar applications, and energy storage devices. The modern manufacturers utilize both automatic and semi-automatic equipment to achieve consistency in battery cell assembly process saving production cost.
1. Battery Cell Testing and Sorting
Initially, the battery cells entering the production line have to undergo inspection. The voltage, internal resistance, capacity, and the physical aspect of the battery cells is carried out to determine the defective products before assembly.
One of the essential aspects of the lithium battery testing and sorting process is the right sorting. It ensures that all of the cells have the same electrical parameters. In 18650 battery assembly line the machines used consist of automatic testing and sorting systems been the same for prismatic battery line where some means of alignment is used.
2. Cell Grouping and Module Assembly
Having tested, the cells which passed the inspection are grouped as for the design of the battery. ID engineers are fed by parameters like voltage and capacity
3. Battery Cells Welding
The welding will depend on the choice of the correct type of machinery. The battery welding machine lines must provide a stable repeatable weld.Using laser welding aids in obtaining precise welds as laser manufacturers need to ensure that the welds they make are suitable. In addition, resistance spot welding is suitable for many applications on cylindrical cells.
Correct welding parameters would help ensure that manufacturing defects are minimized and help improve electrical performance.
4. Battery Management System Installation
Following the welding process, the battery management system (BMS) would then be installed manually by a technician or via robotics. This particular system is responsible for controlling voltage, temperature, and current as well as providing cell balancing and protection functions.
The battery management system (BMS) that is installed in the LFP battery pack assembly line must be appropriate for both the cell chemistry and pack configuration. Proper wiring must be done so as to avoid errors in assembly.
5. Enclosure Assembly and Sealing
The next step in the assembly process involves the mechanical assembly of battery cells/modules in the enclosure. The addition of any insulation, cooling components, connectors, and protective devices takes place in this step.
6. Battery Testing and Aging
Before being shipped, each and every battery pack must undergo electrical testing and functional testing. The typical procedures would consist of testing voltage, capacity, and insulation resistance.
Although, other tests could be conducted as required based on specifications.
The aging process for lithium batteries takes place by means of using the aging machine.
The performance testing for lead acid batteries would vary in accordance with the different procedures used.
Solar battery testing would follow similar protocols in respect of testing.
7. Final Inspection and Packaging
Finally, in the assembly process, the inspection of various aspects takes place including whether or not the labels, terminals, housing, and the related paperwork conform to specified standards.
All properly constructed battery packs then get packed and shipped. Automated battery pack lines enhance production outputs and create a standardized packaging process. The use of clear record-keeping becomes of utmost importance in the field of quality control.
Choosing the Right Battery Assembly Line
To begin the process of selecting the right battery assembly equipment, knowing the type of battery one is making needs to be determined.
In the case of manufacturing lithium batteries, for example, an automatic line would be necessary if mass production means desired.
If lower volumes of batteries need to be produced, then it may be beneficial to use a semi-automatic battery assembly line.
